Lotus Educational Services, Inc.

Lotus Educational Services, Inc., in partnership with the Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency, offers FREE Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Training courses to all Shasta County residents, such as:

  • SafeTALK: Four-hour, interactive training. Participants learn to recognize suicide warning signs and connect those in crisis to an intervention resource.
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST): Two-day, highly interactive training in suicide intervention. ASIST teaches participants how to work with someone in crisis to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Participants don’t need any formal training to attend the workshop—ASIST can be learned and used by anyone.
  • Mental Health First Aid (MHFA): One-day, interactive training. Participants learn how to support someone who is experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis. The training covers depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis and substance use. Two distinct courses are available: Adults and Youth. To sign up visit Stand Against Stigma.

To learn more or register for any of these FREE trainings, email YouMatterShasta@co.shasta.ca.us or call 530-229-8426.

Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Gatekeeper Training

Question, Persuade, and Refer: three steps that can help save a life.

A gatekeeper is someone in a position to recognize when someone may be thinking about suicide (e.g., parents, friends, neighbors, teachers, coaches, caseworkers, police officers, etc.).

People trained in QPR learn to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and question, persuade and refer someone to help. QPR Gatekeeper trainings are offered in 60-minute, 90-minute and two-hour sessions.

QPR trainings offered through the Shasta Suicide Prevention Program are FREE and all materials are provided.

If you have questions or would like to schedule a training for your business or group, call 530-229-8426 or email YouMatterShasta@co.shasta.ca.us.
